Responsible gaming

Betting should stay entertainment.

Our picks are information, not a promise. Even a real long-run edge comes with losing nights, weeks and months. If betting stops being fun, the right play is to stop.

Healthy habits

Set a bankroll

Only bet money set aside for entertainment that you can afford to lose. Never borrow to bet.

Size in units

Keep each bet a small, fixed share of that bankroll. Don't raise stakes to win back losses.

Set limits

Use the deposit, loss and time limits your sportsbook offers. Decide them before you play, not during.

Take breaks

Losing stretches happen to every bettor. Stepping away is always a valid move, and so is cancelling.

Warning signs

  • Betting more than you planned, or more than you can afford to lose
  • Chasing losses with bigger or more frequent bets
  • Borrowing money, or using money meant for bills, to bet
  • Hiding betting from family or friends
  • Feeling anxious, irritable or low when you're not betting
  • Betting interfering with work, school or relationships

Most licensed sportsbooks and many states offer self-exclusion programs that block you from betting for a period you choose. Ask your sportsbook or your state gaming regulator.
