Pick alerts on iPhone, from the website.
The iPhone app arrives in January. Until then, iPhone members get push alerts from the website once it's on the Home Screen. It takes about a minute.
Steps
- 01
Open the site in Safari
On your iPhone, open marketlinelabs.com in Safari and sign in. (iOS 16.4 or later. Check in Settings → General → About.)
- 02
Share → Add to Home Screen
Tap the Share button in Safari's toolbar, scroll the list and tap Add to Home Screen, then Add. Can't see it? Scroll to the bottom and tap Edit Actions.
- 03
Open it from your Home Screen
Close Safari and open Market Line from its new Home Screen icon. Sign in again if it asks: the Home Screen version keeps its own sign-in.
- 04
Turn on alerts, then test
In the Home Screen version, go to Settings, switch Push alerts on and tap Allow. Then tap Send a test alert and check it lands on your lock screen.
Illustrations, not screenshots: button positions vary a little between iOS versions.
Keep the board open
On game nights the live board updates by itself, so an open tab or the Home Screen version shows new picks even if an alert is late.
Email backup
Where it's available for your account, Settings → Alert health check can email you a pick when an alert isn't confirmed on your device within a few minutes.
Quiet hours
Set quiet hours in Settings so overnight releases arrive silently, and use Take a break whenever you need one.
Why can't I just turn alerts on in Safari?
Apple only allows web push for sites added to the Home Screen (iOS 16.4 and later). Opened in a normal Safari tab, the site can't send alerts, so the Alerts switch explains this instead.
The Alerts switch says my browser can't receive push.
You're probably still in a Safari tab. Open Market Line from the Home Screen icon instead, then try again. If it still says so, update iOS: web push needs iOS 16.4 or later.
I tapped Allow but no alerts arrive.
Check Settings → Notifications → Market Line on your iPhone: Allow Notifications should be on, with Lock Screen and Banners ticked. A Focus mode can also hold alerts back. Then send a test alert from the site's Settings.
What if a push alert doesn't reach me?
Keep the live board open on game nights as well, and switch on the email backup in Settings → Alert health check where it's available for your account: if an alert isn't confirmed on your device within a few minutes, we email you the pick.
What happens when the iPhone app ships?
The app is planned for January. Sign in with the same account and it adds native lock-screen alerts; the Home Screen version keeps working too, so you can use either. Turn alerts off in the one you stop using to avoid doubles.
